This is a NIOSH approved N95 respirator. There is currently no need for FDA approval or healthcare approval because all NIOSH approved N95 respirators can be used under the existing Emergency Use Authorization. With that being said we are in the process of listing this 510K exempt product with the FDA and expect to have that listing number by the end of August, 2022.
With such a large amount of filtering media sacrificed to the clear window, how much breathability is lost? What is the pressure drop?
We do not publish NIOSH test results. NISOH does do breathability testing and we fall well within their parameters. In comparison to our standard N95 without a clear window there is roughly 20% more breathing resistance.
Is this a 1-day use mask, or is it usable for longer?
This is considered a single use mask.
Is this a fit tested mask?
it appears to me to be an industrial NIOSH mask not medical/surgical correct?
As with any N95 mask this should be fit tested to each user prior to use. This product will have a device listing number with the FDA in the next few weeks. Currently this can be used in healthcare under the EUA. This will NOT be considered a “surgical” mask.
Does this still filter COVID particulates?
Yes it does but you need to make sure you have been properly fit tested as with any other type of N95 respirator.

I was wondering if Optrel Masks use antimony trioxide or any other material like it.
I know that similar clear masks that I researched use that ingredient that is known to cause cancer. So, I was hoping to find a medical grade clear mask that does not use harmful chemicals.

There is no antimony in our respirator. The clear part of our respirator is made of polypropylene.
We have tested our respirator for cytotoxicity, sensitization, and irritation in an independent certified laboratory. The laboratory did not find any known harmful chemicals in the p.air clear respirator.
What is NIOSH approval number and name so I can look up this mask on their official NIOSH website approval list?
The product name is the P. Air Clear and the NIOSH TC# is TC-84A-9434. We manufacture these under the name Optrel Tec AG in Switzerland.
Do the straps go behind the ears, or do they wrap behind the head?
The straps go around the head.
Will these fit a small adult face? I wear a size medium+ in vogmask and can finally add masks with windows into my resources but I have a face too small for many disposable masks.
Is there any plan to have these back in stock, and also an estimated date of restock? Some patients where I work need to lip read in order to better understand speech, and I would love to be able to order these as opposed to non-certified masks with clear window. Thanks!

I love this mask, and I am using it in the school system as a speech pathologist. I live in Louisiana and wore transparent window masks to work with my students this summer. It was bearable but quite hot. I would take off my mask as soon as I was alone in my room. I have not tested this mask in the Summer. I have been wearing them since November. It seems much more breathable and a much better fit. Also, the window does not fog in use. I need to test the mask wearing glasses to see if my glasses fog. Here are some possible negatives. Apparently the condensation in the mask has to go some where so it drips out the seam in the bottom. I simply explained to my student s that this wasn’t spit and that we should talk to the science teacher to find out what is happening there. They did not seem to be bothered. Next, after removing the mask 2-3 times during a morning, the elastic on 1 band separated from its staple on 1 end. This happened with 3 masks. I fixed the problem by clipping it to a lanyard to hang around my neck. For some reason, maybe less mask pulling on elastic, no more bands have popped. This leads to a suggestion if cost effective and holds seal. Instead of rubber band, consider using 2 clip lanyards with adjustable tightness to affix mask to face. Also, 1 feature on the masks that affix behind the ears that I used daily through out the day was affixing a lanyard to my mask so it could hang around my neck when not in use. It also gave me a quick way to store my mask during quick removal and then to quickly put back on. Right now I clip the lanyard to the cotton near the staples. That seems to work and not damage the mask. Perhaps a little tab can be added as a place to clip the lanyard. Again, I love this product.

In this time when there is less Covid-19 present, it is still very important for elders to mask. I find that I use the clear mask regularly and people in shops and on the street always ask me where I got it. They love it and so do I. It is a friendly way to wear a mask and stay protected. When people see you smile through the clear mask front, the response is very positive. I would encourage people to use this mask. AND I have not ever gotten sick using this mask. It works very well. I use it indoors in crowded spaces, and I am sure I have been around germs. It is a very good and dependable mask. Also it is very “breathable” much better than other N-95s. Please do not stop making these!!!

These masks are great, I use them in hospitals and the ER as a sign language interpreter. They are the only thing like it on the market, but I can no longer find them. A mask with a clear window is vital for communicating with those who are Deaf or hard of hearing. Please bring them back!
